ARTSY :: The Psychedelic Genius of Gerardo Gomez

Kuxtal
Teachings of the Universe
Visions of the New Humanity

________________________________________________________________________________________________
"Gerardo Gomez’s art colors the psychedelic with neurotic dashes of style. His images can hide the sinister behind the simple, drawing the viewer in with brightness while rewarding a close look with the darkness of questioned thought." (OutsiderArt)
________________________________________________________________________________________________

When I visited the artist's official site, I was both surprised and amused by what I saw after I clicked on the link that led me to his bio page. There was only one sentence...

"I've been born several times."

This statement, though extremely short, is anything but simple. It is, on the contrary,  both profound and leading, and gives a viewer/reader great insight into the man behind the art..

Power comes in many forms. However, the rarest form of power, neither easily attained or practiced...is the kind of power that comes from one's ability to utilize a few short words to communicate a much larger, more complex message. Gomez effectively utilizes this form of power, and in effect, sparks the curiosity of those who peruse his site...and leaves them  with a craving to know more...about both him, and his art.

Read more about Gomez and see more of his amazing and complex work...

LISTEN UP :: Sip, Sip, Sippin on Some Sweet Team Sizzurp.

Sweet Team, a duo from Belgium, consists of members Lil' Panini and Vomit Clown. To be perfectly blunt, their lyrics are pretty fucked up. But Sweet Team's sometimes strange and always nasssty, futuristic, beats and slurrred flow have an undeniable brain-melting, addictive quality to them.

Soooo, without further ado, sip on this Sweet Team sizzurrrp...

LISTEN UP :: ill-esha / Tron Purp Sounds + More.

http://generationbass.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/ill-esha-390x390.jpg
Canadian-born producer ill-esha throws down some amazing, and somewhat different, kinds of tunes. The following bio appears on her FB page...
For the last decade, ill-esha has been an integral part of the North American electronic scene. Beginning as a vocalist, she soon added MCing and DJing to her repertoire, creating a dynamic and unique live show which has headlined alongside artists such as Andy C, Klute, Dieselboy, Vibesquad, LTJ Bukem, Tipper, T-Power & De La Soul. She has performed across North America, Europe and Asia; in clubs, at festivals, and even on TV shows on MTV Canada and the CBC.

In 2001 her first 12” single was released on New York label Breakbeat Science; since then ill-esha has worked steadily as a vocalist and producer on labels like BluSaphir, Haunted Audio, Daly City & Muti Music; hitting #1 singles download on Juno and #3 in the Beatport Electronic Charts. One of the founding members of the premier online community GlitchHopForum.com, her remixes are hugely popular, popping up in DJ sets across the globe. Her show is a fiery combination of original beats, glitch edits and live vocals, not to be missed!
I actually had the pleasure of catching ill-esha when she performed a live late-nite set at Kinetic Playground on January 8th and was blown away by her singing...yesss, I said singing! This chica not only throws down sick electronic sounds, she coos live over some of her own synthy and blippy instrumental beats. There are performers who I have seen try to pull this off, and failed miserably (I am going to spare those I am speaking of and not mention any names). But anyway, this badass beat-dropping bia did her thing on stage; and did it right. I found myself swept away by her musical stylings, and danced the night away in s trance-like state.

NOW IT IS TIME FOR SOME MUSIC.

There are a ton of free downloadable and streaming tracks below.
Enjoy!

LISTEN UP :: Beataucue / Eumig & Chinon RMX.

How will the hybridization of genre fair in 2011? Let's hope it stands if things like this Eumig & Chinon remix of Beataucue's  "Disque Oh!" exists. If you're familiar with the blissed out  francolectro of the original, you'll notice it's still intact here, but  with unwonted elements garnishing the whole— the sonically throbbing  heavy bass of dubstep married with the spirit and sound of 1970s  psychedelic dance music (disco!). But that's what makes Eumig &  Chinon themselves, their ability to smack those two things into one.  Britain meets New York City, but beget of Copenhagen. You can check out  the original, as well as more remixes on the Disque Oh! EP out now on Kitsune. (RCRDLBL)

LISTEN UP: PAINTED PALMS / CANOPY.

The psychedelic, experimental, electro-pop, chillwave, influenced sounds you'll hear (once you cop the FREE downloads below) are courtesy of San Francisco's PAINTED PALMS, who released their CANOPY EP last month. What I love most about the combo of songs they included, is the diversity among them...no one track, sounds (too much) like another.

As soon as GREAT WHITE starts to creep in, you know it's going to be good. Slow wobbly bass, airy vocals, and psychedelic synth, merge together to produce a nostalgic sound reminiscent of many out-of-the-80's faves of mine. While, on the other end of the spectrum, ALL OF US had me jumping around my room and stomping my feet to it's energetic clap-along beat and echoey, overlapping vocals.

WHY THEY'RE UNIQUE: Painted Palms' Chris Prudhomme & Reese Donohue are related...cousins to be exact!

BOTTOM LINE: The CANOPY EP is a must-have. Get that ish nowww...
