Hmmm...I don't know what Magnetic Man (a.k.a. Benga, Artwork, and Skream) was thinking when they decided to turn Willow Smith's Pop/RnB tune, "Whip My Hair," into what sounds like, in my opinion, a Darth Vader impersonator spittin' rhymes over a chopped and screwed electro track. As I'm sure many of you are aware of by now, Cut Copy's new album, Zonoscope has officially been released. What I find most interesting about the release of this album is that some retail copies of Zonoscope include a special bonus hour-long mix, entitled "A Tale Of Two Journeys," which, according to a press release, is...
"...a medley of hits performed live at the Island Diamond Dance Hall in '87 by Bobby Boomerang and his band."
However, while perusing Pitchfork's "News" section, I stumbled across an article, entitled Hear a New Cut Copy DJ Mix by Tom Breihan, which included the following commentary on what was stated in the press release (see above)...
"This is, of course, not true. Instead, it's a collection of smoothly funky tracks that moves freely across genre lines. Highlights include the Brothers Johnson's "Strawberry Letter 23", Ace Frehley's "New York Groove", and A Guy Called Gerald's "Voodoo Ray".
I included the previous tidbits of info pertaining to Zonoscope for those of you who actually enjoy knowing more about an album than just its name. But for those of you who are, at this point, saying... "Fuck it! I just wanna hear some music!" ...in Cut Copy album bonus fashion, I too have a few goodies for you ; )

Watching this video, I found myself captivated and mesmerized by not only the tribal sounds being emitted from my speakers, but the creative genius of those who collaborated to bring us a momentary glimpse of what looks a lot like HEAVEN.
Example and Skream collabed on this track, which was released a few days ago. At almost the same time the track was released, a video by UKF, which you can watch below, was uploaded to YouTube. According to Ministry of Sound...
Both completely off their nuts at a dubstep rave, Example & Skream met a few years ago on a beach in Miami and instantly hit it off. Example was a massive fan of Skream. Skream liked one, maybe two, of Example’s songs. A day in the studio gave birth to two new songs.
One of those will be on Example’s forthcoming 3rd LP alongside productions from Nero, Faithless, Michael Woods and Chase & Status. The other is "Shot Yourself In The Foot Again", which debuted on Zane Lowe’s show on [January 4th] as his ‘Hottest Record In The World’ and was followed by a spin a few hours later on Annie Mac’s show. MistaJam then gave it its BBC 1xtra premiere on [January 5th].
Who: This 22-year-old London-based producer and singer-songwriter has been a darling of London’s dubstep scene for the past two years, but gained significant attention over the course of 2010 for a trio of EPs that were acclaimed by Pitchfork, Stereogum and Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson. He’s now poised to blow up with his self-titled debut album, a startlingly mature collection of tunes that finds an unlikely middle ground between the abstract electronica of his EPs and soulful balladry.
Sounds Like: Imagine if Antony of the Johnsons recorded an R&B album with Aphex Twin, or a scratched CD of Arthur Russell and Marvin Gaye collaborating in the afterlife. Blake foregrounds his haunting, highly expressive voice in tracks that juxtapose glitchy electronic textures with acoustic piano and ample negative space. His vocal melodies are simple and striking, and serve as the emotional anchor for compositions that shift on surprising tangents without disrupting the mood.
Feist Fan: Blake composed and performed most of the album by himself, but the record’s first single is a striking cover of Feist’s "Limit to Your Love" (watch Blake's video for the song, above). Her version of the song was already quite stark, but Blake’s take pushes even further into minimalism without losing any of its tunefulness or emotional weight. It’s an excellent introduction to Blake's style — bold and unusual in its sound, while direct in its sentiment and familiar in form.
Live Beginner: Blake has been active in London’s music scene for while and has performed with the electronic duo Mount Kimbie, but he is only just now beginning to play his own material in concert. Though the record was made by himself using a computer, the singer intends to tour behind the album with a full live band without the aid of laptops. As of now, he has only played a few shows in England, but going on this audience footage of his band playing the slow-burning ballad "The Wilhelm Scream," the tour promises to be rather intense.
